When you encounter a challenge, just pause. Take a breath and acknowledge the feeling without judgment. Simply say to yourself, “Okay, this is frustrating, and it’s okay to feel this way.” This simple act of self-compassion calms your nervous system and allows you to think clearly.

Activate Your Curiosity

This is the moment you switch maps. Instead of asking a powerless question, you ask a powerful, curious question. This is the key that unlocks the purpose. Your new favorite questions are:

  • What is the hidden opportunity here?
  • How is this situation helping me grow?
  • What can I learn from this that will serve me in the future?

Find the Advantage

Now that you’ve asked a better question, your mind will start looking for better answers. Your job is to actively search for the advantage. The flight delay gives you two uninterrupted hours to read. Your RAS immediately gets to work, scanning your environment for evidence of opportunity, lessons, and advantages. You literally start to see a different world, not because the world changed, but because you changed what you were searching for.
